Akropolis

Akropolis Pastries began in 1979 as a small bakery in Toronto’s Greektown. It was one of the first places in Toronto to serve Greek food. 

Early history 

  • Akropolis Pastries started as a family bakery that specialized in traditional Greek phyllo pastries
  • The bakery quickly began wholesaling, manufacturing, and distributing frozen products to local restaurants
  • The bakery expanded to include supermarkets like Pusateri’s Fine Foods and Highland Farms

Growth and expansion 

  • Akropolis Pastries has expanded to serve customers across Canada and the United States
  • The bakery has blended North American flavours with traditional Greek flavours to appeal to a wider audience

Closure of Danforth location 

  • The Akropolis Pastries store on the Danforth in Toronto closed in August 2023 after 44 years in business
  • The bakery’s manufacturing facility in Concord is still open and customers can pick up products there
